Fiber Optic Internet Service

Fiber optic Internet is a technology for bringing high-bandwidth broadband data service to small businesses over a fiber-optic communications network.  Like DSL, fiber optic Internet service is an "always on" type connection to the Internet.  With fiber optic Internet service all you need to do is connect your computer to the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) of your fiber optic Internet service provider.

When you access the Internet, a fiber optic cable carries the laser-generated pulses of light to transmit the data signal to your business where an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) converts it to an electrical signal that is understood by your computer.  When you send data (like email) over the Internet, the electrical signal from your computer is converted back to light signals by the ONT and transmitted to the recipient over the fiber optic cable.
